My name is Wouter. And lucky you! You've stumbled upon my first ever blog post. I don't know how any of this works, but I have written many top quality Facebook posts before, so I'm guessing it's about the same, but longer.
For now I'll try to keep it brief though. First I'll introduce myself and then I'll talk a bit about my intentions with this website and blog.
I am, was, and always will be a nerd. A nerd with a dream. For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to start my own company. Why work for others when you can be your own (and somebody else's) boss? Turns out there are plenty of reasons - such as stability, nice colleagues, and fringe benefits. But still, I wanted something else; excitement, responsibility, variety, and freedom. Typical millenial right?
But there was one problem. I was still a nerd.
I didn't know how to start a company. And so I sat behind my laptop, working on my Computer Science studies and playing video games. Until one day I got a Facebook message from someone I had barely talked to since high school.
Left: Original messages. Right: translated to English.
And that's how I started my first startup - Cycleswap - together with Joran, David, David and Matthijs. I will probably write an entire post about that at one point. But long story short, we tried a lot, learned a lot, had a lot of fun, and eventually sold it to an American company called Spinlister. After working on this for three years, I could barely recognize myself anymore. Before I even realized what was happening, I had become slightly more socially capable, slightly more business savvy, and a lot more driven to do this all again.
Since then, I've worked as a freelance developer, organized business courses, and finished my masters. Currently, I'm working as a freelancer again and am also building another startup with the Cycleswap crew. Getting a bit more personal, I enjoy playing drums, singing, designing stuff and of course playing video games. I'm a generalist who can't stand not understanding something. Now you might want to know how I look, so to that end, I present to you my best performing Tinder profile picture to date:
That's me defending my thesis.
I hope all of this tells you something about me. If I missed something, or if you want to share your own personal story, comment below! ← That's a call to action in order to create engagement. As you can see I also learned a thing or two about marketing.
So let's move on to...
Honestly, if I had any idea about the future of this blog, I would tell you. For now, my plans are to write about anything I find interesting. As you can probably tell by my bio, this mostly entails tech and entrepreneurship. I already have a few things I want to write about, and hope to include some topics I have a strong and perhaps controversial opinion on. My goal is to get these thoughts out of my head and allow others to read them. It's kind of like a diary, except I won't write about my Tinder dates here.
Possible topics include:
- Websites (okay, this one is pretty much guaranteed).
- Projects I work on.
- Computer Vision.
- Spirituality (the non-religious kind).
- Politics (don't trust me on this one though, I'm not at all qualified to talk about this).
So how often will I write posts? No clue either.
If that didn't get you excited to stay tuned to my blog or hire me as a freelancer, I don't know what will. In any case, thank you for reading!
